Welcome to Starlings Class!
It has been a great start to the term in Starlings! We are going to have so much fun this year and learn a lot as well. Our first topic is ‘What a Wonderful World’ and we will be learning about animals, plants and countries as well as how we can take care of planet Earth. We will also find out about how plants and animals contribute to a healthy diet and cook some healthy meals. In history, we will be learning about seven inspirational people from Neil Armstrong to Rosa Parks.
Key Information
Miss Rance will be in school on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Miss Hunt will be teaching Starlings on Thursday mornings. Mrs Street will also be in Starlings throughout the week including Thursday mornings.
Forest School and PE is on a Thursday afternoon. Please make sure that children come in wearing their PE kit and also have wellies.
In line with the rest of the school, we will be using Class Dojo as a reward system and method of communicating with parents. Last year we found Class Dojo to be a really successful way of keeping parents up to date with dates and information. If you need to contact either Miss Rance or Miss Hunt please message us on there as it is the quickest and easiest way to do so.
Homework Expectations
Children are expected to read at least five times a week. Please can an adult sign the child’s reading record along with the date and pages read so we can see this is being done. We will check reading records every Monday and if it has been signed by an adult at home at least five times since the previous Monday, your child will receive five Class Dojo’s.
Spellings will be set on a Monday and tested the following Monday.
Maths Homework will consist of six calculations, this should only take 6 minutes to complete. It will be sent home on a Monday and need to be in school the following Monday.
By Year 4, children will be expected to know the times tables up to 12 x 12. It is really important that all children have rapid recall of these times tables, so everyone in Starlings practice their times tables daily. Children have access to Timestable Rockstars and we encourage them to practice regularly at home.
I am so excited for the year ahead, I know that we will all accomplish great things.
